Director of the museum says “goodbye” to Alain Godon’s paintings
Sunday was the last day of Alain Godon’s exhibition, Extravaganza. Three questions for Sophie Deshayes, director of the museum of Le Touquet. So, happy? “Yes! This is a new record: 4,400 visitors in February which is quite exceptional. Our major exhibitions more generally attract a national public. With Extravaganza, we noticed an unusual number of local people. And there were as many first time visitors to the museum, as there were those who came back!
There were lots of families. Children, who initially came with their schools, brought their parents and showed them around the exhibition. “What is the impact on the resort? “If Godon has put on an exhibition here in Le Touquet, it is because of his special attachment to the resort. French artists often struggle to break through outside France, yet Godon has been able to penetrate beyond our borders, especially in the United States. Interest in the resort and the publicity for town’s image has reached a much wider audience. Godon is a real ambassador in foreign lands.
