Miami – Alain Godon and his around the world in eighty works
Alain Godon painted his first drawings on the pavement in chalk. Today he is far removed from this type of street art. It is in a gallery, Markowicz Fine Art, that he will be exhibiting his work from 12 February.
I t was during his holidays in Le Touquet that the gallery owner, Bernard Markowicz, fell in love with Alain Godon’s paintings. He bought one. “What I really loved about him was the joyousness, the little jokes and yet at the same time quite rigorous: he is quite exacting.” “So, I tried to contact him, he said okay, in ten minutes, in a café” recalls the collector. And then both of them found things they had in common, the same home town in the north of France. Ten minutes turned into two hours.
Bernard Markowicz convinced the artist to come to Miami where he wanted him to exhibit his work. “I wasn’t very keen on Miami to begin with” confessed the artist. “I had this image of a seaside resort with body-builder guys and breast-implanted girls”. But once there, Alain Godon was pleasantly surprised. Miami was nothing like the overrated town he had expected. “I was blown away by the city’s architecture” he remembers. “What better place for an artist who has made skyscrapers and cityscapes his muses… Bernard Markowicz has selected 80 works by the artist to give an audience a journey around the world with eighty works of art. A “travel card” comprising original paintings and sculptures.
